Harelson Bookmark Contest

Harelson school took part in the first annual Rio Chico Bookmark Contest; Rio Chico is an imprint of the local publisher Rio Nuevo. All the teachers and the librarians helped support the project which was closely tied to Arizona themes and Love of Reading Month. Students were read four books over the four weeks in January and then designed their bookmarks in art class using a template and materials of their choice.

Schools throughout the city participated in the contest. The Grand Prize winner will have his/her bookmark printed and distributed at the Tucson Festival of Books at the University of Arizona. The winning student will be invited to a special event on Sunday March 11. This was fun and the kids learned a lot about Arizona wildlife, history, and the desert.
